So a friend is looking at the lower/mid range of luxury SUVs, and I suggested to look into the F-pace. While it is the first go around at an SUV for Jag, it seems to be very well put together. His only concern (that I agree with) is reliability.

I trust that it is luxurious, and fast, and knocks all the X’s on those boxes. Will it be in the shop all the time? Any opinions on this? The word is the newer models are much more reliable than their past brethren.

Any input is appreciated!

Though I’m almost thinking of telling him to lease and just keep moving on to a different car all the time (given the budget and job position that requires some form of image).

They’re about in line with the market average last time I checked which is a massive improvement for Jaguar. Also it should be noted that Land Rover are still battling it with Jeep for most unreliable brand so don’t be swayed in the dealership.

Also worried about reliability. Have read that the buying experience also sucks.

I would talk him into leasing it. That way if there’s any first run problems he can always walk away.

Lease. That's what we are probably going to do.

I haven’t noticed any issues that don’t occur in all modern cars within the first 60,000 miles. The issues that WILL happen are things like the key fob not being detected, cruise control may not engage, and materials showing wear. But all those things will happen in a Mazda as well and aren’t weekly events or anything.

Pretty much reliability is fine, durability is not though. So if they are the type to wear jeans a lot, roll in and out of their seats when entering or exiting, kick the sills, or let the seat belt hit the door/window when taking it off, all those things will show immediately. But once again, those are all things that are true for many cars now.

Here’s the 2012 XF’s driver seat after just 15,000 miles (which is when we bought it).

But like I said, I have zero worries with the drivetrain (compared to anything with the ZF 9-speed). Even the motorized vents and shifter actually seem like they will out live the warranty (probably by a week).

I say go for it though since Jaguar is actually using cheaper materials which tend to be a lot more durable and the F-Pace felt great when I was in it last week. It even shows the navigation map in the instrument cluster just like Audi’s Digital Cockpit. When I discoveted that it was a surprise to me and the salesmen! I say go for it (but not the base version, that one is terrible).

I’m thinking this too.

Great review thank you!

This is a great perspective to see.

The new ones are perfectly fine. No problems that he wouldn't have with any other car.

I had the feeling. Which is great, I’m rooting for jag. Especially after the F type came to the world. My goodness. Just my goodness.

I’d say the F type R coupe is one of the most desirable vehicles to me at the moment.
